đ Steps to Finalize Your Power of Attorney (POA)
Your lawyer in Sri Lanka will draft your Power of Attorney (POA) and email it to you shortly. To ensure the document is legally binding, please follow these critical steps:
1. Provide Accurate Information
Please reply to your lawyer with the following details exactly as they appear on your official documents:
- Your Full Name: Must match both your Passport and the Property Deed. If your name differs between these documents, provide both versions.
- Your Identity Details: Your current Passport number.
- Your Addresses: Both your Sri Lankan address and your current overseas address.
- Your Attorneyâs Details: The full name, National Identity Card (NIC) number, and current address of the person you are appointing.
2. Review, Print, and Execute
Once you receive the draft via email:
- Verify: Check every detail for absolute accuracy.
- Print: You must print the document double-sided on A4-sized paper.
- Sign: Sign the document in front of an authorized official. This can be at a Sri Lankan Embassy, a High Commission, or before a licensed Notary Public or Solicitor in your current country.
- Endorse: Ensure you sign every single page (all loose sheets) of the document.
3. Support with Identification
- Print a copy of your passport data page.
- Sign this copy physically using blue ink and attach it to the final POA.
